Translated laws

Some of Jersey’s laws are in French, because, in line with Jersey’s heritage, this was the language of most statutes up to the 1960s. Unofficial English translations are available for some of the most used French laws in the current collection to help you to understand the law.

However, English translations are not admissible in court and you must always refer to the original law. Many browsers allow you to translate the laws (and may do this automatically) but these translations must not be relied on for legal purposes. In addition, professional advice should always be sought to resolve doubt or obtain clarification.
