POLICE COURT (CHANGE OF NAME) (JERSEY) LAW 1996

A LAW       to change the name of the Police Court to the Magistrate’s Court; and for connected purposes; sanctioned by Order of Her Majesty in Council of the

THE STATES, subject to the sanction of Her Most Excellent Majesty in Council, have adopted the following Law –

ARTICLE 1

The Court established by virtue of the “Loi (1853) établissant la Cour pour la répression des moindres délits1”, as amended, shall henceforth be known as the Magistrate’s Court.

ARTICLE 2

The enactments specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Law are amended to the extent and in the manner set out in the second column thereof.

ARTICLE 3

In the construction of, and for the purposes of, any enactment, judgment, order, “acte” or other document, a reference to the –

(a)     Police Court; or

(b)     Magistrate’s Court,

shall be construed as a reference to the Court established by virtue of the “Loi (1853) établissant la Cour pour la répression des moindres délits”, as amended.

ARTICLE 4

This Law may be cited as the Police Court (Change of Name) (Jersey) Law 1996 and shall come into force on such day as the States may by Act appoint.
