Education (Grants and Allowances) (2022 Academic Year) (Jersey) Order 2022

THE MINISTER FOR CHILDREN AND EDUCATION makes this Order under Articles 51 and 68 of the Education (Jersey) Law 1999 –

1        Interpretation

In this Order –

“2018 Order” means the Education (Grants and Allowances) (Jersey) Order 2018;

“2022 academic year” means the academic year beginning on 1st September 2022, and

other words or expressions that are used have the same meaning as in the 2018 Order.

2        Application

This Order applies in respect of a student –

(a)     who has been awarded in respect of the 2022 academic year of a course, an applicable maintenance grant under Article 13 of the 2018 Order and the student –

(i)      is undertaking the course elsewhere than in Jersey, or

(ii)      is an independent student undertaking the course in Jersey; and

(b)     whose relevant income is –

(i)      less than £90,000 and the applicable maintenance grant is not for a course referred to in clause (ii), or

(ii)      less than £100,000 and the applicable maintenance grant is for a course in medicine, dentistry, nursing or veterinary science.

3        Increase in amount of applicable maintenance grant

(1)     For the 2022 academic year only, the amount of the applicable maintenance grant specified in Table A (amount of grant (other than for distance learning course)) in Article 13 of the 2018 Order is increased by the amount specified in column 2 of the Table (in this Article) that corresponds with the student’s relevant income per year specified in column 1 of the Table, and the applicable total amount is increased accordingly.

(2)     With regard to a student who falls under Article 2(b)(ii), for the 2022 academic year only, the amount of the applicable maintenance grant as increased under Article 15 of the 2018 Order is further increased in the amount of £72, and the applicable total amount is increased accordingly.

(3)     The amount of the increase specified in this Article is to be made as an instalment payment that is separate from any instalment payment made under Article 30 of the 2018 Order.

5        Citation, commencement and expiry

(1)     This Order may be cited as the Education (Grants and Allowances) (2022 Academic Year) (Jersey) Order 2022.

(2)     This Order comes into force on the day after it is made and expires at the end of 31st August 2023.
