THE STATES, in pursuance of the powers
vested in them by the Committees of the States (Jersey) Law, 1946, (hereinafter referred to as “the principal
Law”) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, have made the
following Act : -
PART I
AMALGAMATION AND DESCRIPTION OF CERTAIN
COMMITTEES
FINANCE COMMITTEE
1. The
Finance Committee, the Committee appointed for the purposes of the “Loi
(1934) pour faciliter la construction de maisons ouvrières” and the “Comité de surveillance et de
contrôle de l’exploitation de la Société dite
‘The Jersey Electricity Company, Limited’ ” shall be
amalgamated into one Committee which shall be described as the Finance
Committee.
DEFENCE COMMITTEE
2. The
Committee of the Defence of the Island, the Committee appointed for the
purposes of the “Loi (1925) sur la Police Salariée”, the Motor Traffic Committee, the
“Comité nommé pour étudier la question de la
préparation d’un rôle des Jersiais enrôlés dans
les Forces Armées Britanniques, etc.” and the “Comité
pour l’administration du lieu de réception (Remand Home) pour les
jeunes délinquants” shall be amalgamated into one Committee which
shall be described as the Defence Committee.
3. The
Public Health Committee, the Committee appointed for the purposes of the
“Loi (1890) sur la régie et l’administration de
l’Asile Public pour les Aliénés” and the
Public Assistance Committee shall be amalgamated into one Committee which shall
be described as the Public Health Committee

PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
5. The
Public Works Committee, the “Comité d’Administration des
Grandes Routes”, the “Comité d’Investigation au sujet
des empiètements sur certaines propriétées appartenant au
public”, the “Comité d’administration de la propriété
dite ‘Plaisance’ ” and the Committees appointed for the
purposes of the “Loi (1885) touchant l’administration des
Marchés Publics” shall be
amalgamated into one Committee which shall be described as the Public Works
Committee.
HARBOURS AND AIRPORT COMMITTEE
6. The
Piers and Harbours Committee shall be described as the Harbours and Airport
Committee.
DEUX GREFFES COMMITTEE
7. The
Committee appointed for the purposes of the “Loi (1931) constituant
‘Le Département du Greffe Judiciaire’ ” and for the purposes of the “Loi (1931)
constituant ‘Le Département du Greffe des Etats’ ”, the “Comité chargé de la
réimpression des lois et règlements,” [the Committee
appointed for the purposes of the “Règlement (1860) pour faciliter
le transfert de maisons et terres en garantissant l’acquéreur, par
voie d’expertise, contre toute éviction forcée par
décret”] and the “Comité nommé au sujet
de la préservation des anciens rôles de la Cour Royale”
shall be amalgamated into one Committee which shall be described as the Deux
Greffes Committee.
TOURISM COMMITTEE
8. The
Tourism Committee and the “Comité nommé pour étudier
les Lois en vigueur réglementant la vente de boissons alcooliques dans
l’Ile” shall be amalgamated into one Committee which shall be
described as the Tourism Committee.
ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES COMMITTEE
9. The
Department of Essential Commodities shall be described as the Essential
Commodities Committee.
LEGISLATION COMMITTEE
10. The
Legislation Committee, the “Comité des propositions d’ordre
privé” and the “Comité Ecclésiastique pour la
considération de la législation ecclésiastique qui
pourrait affecter cette Ile” shall be amalgamated into one Committee
which shall be described as the Legislation Committee
PART II
CONSTITUTION OF VICTORIA COTTAGE
HOMES COMMITTEE AND GEORGE V COTTAGE HOMES COMMITTEE
VICTORIA COTTAGE HOMES COMMITTEE
11. Notwithstanding
the provisions of paragraph (I) of Article 2 of the principal Law, the Victoria
Cottage Homes Committee shall be constituted as provided by the Act of the
States of the twelfth day of February, 1903.
GEORGE V COTTAGE HOMES COMMITTEE
12. Notwithstanding
the provisions of paragraph (I) of Article 2 of the principal Law, the George V
Cottage Homes Committee shall be constituted as provided by the Act of the
States of the ninth day of July, 1938.
PART III
SPECIAL PROVISIONS RELATING TO
PRINCIPAL COMMITTEES
13. The Committees of
the States to which this Part of this Act applies are the Finance Committee,
the Defence Committee, the Public Health Committee, the Committee of
Agriculture, [the Education Committee,] the
Public Works Committee, [the Social Security Committee,] [the Harbours and Airport Committee, the Tourism
Committee [the Housing Committee and the Island Development Committee.]]
14. No member of the
States shall be eligible as President of more than one of the Committees of the
States to which this Part of this Act applies.
15. No member of the
States shall be eligible as a member of more than two of the Committees of the
States to which this Part of this Act applies.
