Pedal Cycles
(Amendment) (Jersey) Order 2011

THE MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT AND TECHNICAL SERVICES, in pursuance of Articles 3,
80 and 84 of the Road Traffic (Jersey) Law 1956[1], orders as follows –
1 Interpretation
In this Order, “principal Order” means the Pedal Cycles
(Jersey) Order 1998[2].
2 Article 1
amended
In Article 1 of the principal Order –
(a) the
definition “1971 British Standard” shall be deleted;
(b) after
the definition “1981 British Standard” there shall be inserted the
following definition –
“ ‘1987
British Standard’ means the specification for motors for battery operated
vehicles published by the British Standards Institution under the reference BS 1727:1987;”;
(c) in
the definitions “continuous rated output” and “nominal
voltage” for the words “1971 British Standard” there shall be
substituted the words “1987 British Standard”.
3 Article 2
amended
For Article 2(2) of the principal Order there shall be
substituted the following paragraph –
“(2) The requirements referred to
in paragraph (1)(c) are that the electric motor –
(a) has a continuous rated output which, when
installed in the pedal cycle with the nominal voltage supplied, does not exceed
0.25 kilowatts;
(b) is not capable of propelling the pedal cycle
when it is being pedalled at more than 15 miles per hour;
(c) is not, in the case of a pedal cycle constructed
on or after 1st June 2011, capable of propelling the pedal cycle when it
is not being pedalled at more than 4 miles per hour.”.
4 Citation
and commencement
This Order may be cited as the Pedal Cycles (Amendment) (Jersey)
Order 2011 and shall come into force on 1st June 2011.
